Elia Together, Athens 2018
Working as a freelance translator for over twenty years, I have gained extensive knowledge in specific fields, specializing in technical documentation for aerospace and defence, the airline industry, aviation, shipping, sailing and maritime topics, corporate communication and legal documents.
Having grown up in a bilingual family and focused my studies on foreign languages, my native command of English and Italian allows me to provide accurate translations in both language combinations.
I achieved my MA in Foreign Languages and Literature in 1992 at Rome University "La Sapienza" with a thesis dissertation on "Translation and tradition in Douglas Hyde and Lady Gregory" (Traduzione e tradizione in Douglas Hyde e Lady Gregory, 110/110 cum laude).
In January 2013 I successfully completed a Postgraduate Master in Specialized Translation at the University of Pisa (legal translation and energy & environment) with a thesis dissertation on "Translating the IATA Standard Ground Handling agreement: searching for functional equivalence and identifying linguistic pitfalls" (La traduzione del contratto IATA SGHA: dalla ricerca dell'equivalenza funzionale all'identificazione delle trappole linguistiche, 110/110 cum laude).
S1000D User Forum, New Orleans 2018
As an active participant in the international translator community I enjoy in-person events, both as a speaker and as an attendee. Sadly, this year, due to worldwide travel restrictions, most industry events are taking place online. So far, my contributions as a speaker in 2020 include:
May 7: “Keep it Short and Simple: Introductory Webinar on Simplified Technical English” (60') for APTRAD, the Portuguese Association of Professional Translators and Interpreters.
May 14 - 21: "Keep it Short and Simple: Introductory Webinar Series on Simplified Technical English" (two 90’ sessions) organized by COM&TEC (Italian Association for Technical Communication).
July 15:“ITS - STE - Corrige!DT”, a webinar also organized by COM&TEC (Focusing on Simplified Technical English and Italian CNLs and on readability index analysis)
As for 2021, in February I will be addressing STE in a dedicated Module (five 2-hour sessions) during the CQCT course organized by COM&TEC. The entire CQCT course (over 100 hours) is focused on technical communication skills. The course is certified by CEPAS, a Bureau Veritas Group company.
In 2018, I presented as a Speaker on "Beyond aerospace and defence: applying the ASD-STE100 Simplified Technical English specification to other domains" at the Elia Together Conference in Athens and I held a session on STE at the APTRAD International Conference in Porto. The same year, I was also honoured to represent the STEMG as a Speaker at the 2018 S1000D User Forum and ILS Specification Day in New Orleans (one of my sessions focused on "ASD-STE100 implementation in S1000D: improving clarity to reduce human factor risk and optimize translation costs").
I served as a moderator for ProZ.com translator portal, monitoring Italian / English KudoZ terminology questions, and the Italian forum from 2010 to 2014. I organized the ProZ.com International Conference in Rome in 2011 and in Pisa in 2014.
